Certain Centaurus Variable Annuity Exchanges, or “switches,” have been alleged as inappropriate by the regulator FINRA.
On July 15, 2026, FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, penalized Centaurus Financial $1.1. This was for poor supervision over inappropriate annuity exchanges, or “switches.” Advisors are highly motivated to make such switches. Replacing an old annuity with a new annuity can provide an advisor with a large commission.
States often restrict such annuity exchanges. This includes restricting the recommendation or sale of an annuity switch that is not in the best interests of the investor. This includes reviewing whether the advisor is putting the advisor’s interest ahead of the investor.
Many states also require heightened disclosures before such exchanges can be made. This can include that actual reading aloud the warnings of exchanging annuities.
There are very few reasons justifying a switch of annuities considering the price an investor pays. Please contact us if you wish to discuss. We have significant experience representing switching victims.
