The Ponzi Scheme of Trevor Uhls cost investors millions. Federal officials brought criminal charges against Uhls for his crimes. Uhls worked as an independent contractor for MML Investor Services at the time of his fraud. We are investigating whether MML is responsible for the actions of Uhls.
Brokerage firms have obligations to supervise their employees and contractors. They also have obligations to not cloak their contractors with apparent authority. So, if Uhls represented himself as a representative, and appeared to be an MML representative, MML may have obligations to the investors. This is true even if MML never made Uhls its registered representative.
